One of the overarching discourse or topic in film studies in the question of the author in film. Is there an author in cinema? Is the director the author of the film? Is the screenwriter the author of the film? In several instances, in reading, writing, and watching cinema, we have asked these questions many times. And, most of the time, the question is drawn in comparison to traditional literary authorship. Books have authors, editors and publishers, which are all separately attributed. This section will summarize some of the literature I found regarding the problem of authorship in cinema.
